Battle of Mantinea 418 BC

The peace of Nicias in 421 BC did not cease to mitigate the winds of war that converged between Sparta and Athens and the factions contrary to the peace that existed in both cities. They devoted themselves to boycott everything possible from the start of the treaty. While in Athens that warmongering faction was well embodied in Alcibiades, in Sparta there were two ephors, Cleobulus and Jenares who strove to establish all the alliances possible in order to extend the policy of Brasidas and defeat all of Athens once and for all. Such breeding ground would end the only way possible, with a new confrontation between the two cities in what has become known as the Battle of Mantinea.
